This is our story...

Marvin United Methodist Church has a rich history dating back to September 1873. Named after the esteemed Bishop Enoch Marvin, our church was a labor of love built by the hands of local farmers and craftsmen. It was truly a community effort, with contributions from people of all denominations.

The land for the church was generously donated by James Marsh, a Baptist, and Neill McQueen, a Presbyterian. Located at the junction of their estates, our church stands proudly along the Wilmington-Fayetteville road (Highway No. 87), surrounded by the serene Marsh and McQueen-McArthur family graves.

Our journey began under the guidance of Reverend Gentry, our first Methodist pastor, and Reverend Dr. Cunningham, the Presiding Elder. The founding members—Charlie Williamson, France McMillan, Sam Kriner, Abe, Dick, and Billy Gainey, John Davis, David Evans, Henry Marsh, Tom Blake, Frank Yarborough, Jasper Edge, and their families—set a foundation of faith and community that continues to thrive today.

Through the years, Marvin Church has grown, modernized, and become a beacon of hope and light for our community. Our vibrant congregation reflects our enduring legacy and our commitment to spreading God's love.

God's presence has been woven into every chapter of our history. Thus, our story is ultimately His story.

Join our community - we invite you to become a part of His story. Whether you're seeking a spiritual home, a place to volunteer, or simply want to learn more about our history and mission, we would love to connect with you.
